Rips
Rip (plural "Rips") is a term used to refer to videos uploaded by specific channels that mimic legitimate video game music uploads on YouTube. The intention of these videos is to trick the audience into listening to them only to perform a bait-and-switch effect, usually revealing a remix using the song in the title alongside other sources.
This term originates from the actual term "ripping," which is used to describe "the extraction of digital content from a container, such as a CD, onto a new digital form and location." The fact that these videos call themselves "rips" is part of the mimicry role that these videos perform to dress themselves as legitimate and trick the audience in the first place. And even if some channels try to mimic a non-video game bulk uploaders; most of the people and channels involved with this movement still call them "rips" regardless.
Types of Rips
The way some rips trick or play with the viewer might vary depending on the ripper and rip execution, but most of them focuses on making the viewer unaware of the changes at first to later reveal the edit in the song. Here are some examples on how rips tend to be edited:
Melodyswaps
Melodyswaps or Melody Changes are rips that reorganize the melodies presents in the song to resemble the melody from another different song entirely using the instruments from the advertised track. Sometimes this is done inversly. Sequenced Music is the most easy to melodyswap but its possible to melodyswap Streamed Music if the one in change can recreate it.
This is an example of a Melodyswap uploaded by SiIvaGunner of Bonetrousle form the Game UNDERTALE, melodyswapped to Unfounded Revenge from MOTHER 3.
Mashups
Mashups are rips that lay a vocal track from one song into the instrumental of another song, often leaving the vocal track or the instrumental track suceptible to edits to make them sound coherent and harmonious with eachother.
This is an example of a Mashup uploaded by TimmyTurnersGrandDad of 20 Seconds Countdown form the Game Kahoot!, mashuped with The Nutshack Theme from The Nutshack.
